Hi Kate, I've started my cat Harlow Fusion-turkey--she seems to be doing fine. I also give her a mix of Applaws chicken bone broth/water to go along with it for hydration. Would you be able to review the contents of Harlow if not be able to give a complete review in comparison to Tiki Cat Chicken Born Carnivore. I'm worried about the added salt content. If there is one...a list of dry without sugar & salt additives. Thank you, Cathy

I began to transition my cats to Open Farm Raw Mix based on reviews here, and my cats seemed to like it a lot; however when bird flu became an issue and veterinarians started warning about feeding raw and freeze-dried raw to pets, I became concerned. I was even more concerned that this site and the Open Farm site didn't address the issue at all (if either has since, I'm sorry I missed it), so I backed away from the brand altogether. If it was a non-issue, the reassurance would have been appreciated. I'm still wondering why it wasn't addressed.

What does cats.com have to say about reports linking, but not in any confirmed way, a condition known as dilated cardiacmyopathy (dcm) to pulses (lentils peas etc.) in dry kibble? In the past dcm was linked to lack of taurine but now taurine is added to all dry cat food. I often wondered why all vets sell Science Diet and/or Royal Canin and don't advocate the grain free cat foods. I concluded that it was because of reports linking dcm to grain free diets but specifically the presence of pulses. I currently feed my two cats Orijen dry food (and/or similar) will continue to do so until I see a confirmed reason not to.

Can you please add magnesium content for those with urinary issues? I understand that wet is best but it's not always possible.
Also, Kirkland is not available on Walmart nor Amazon. Why include it when a membership is required. I need an affordable option for a feral colony with known urinary issues.

Yes, we're working on a new tool to help you filter thousands of cat foods by their calcium and phosphorus levels, as well as protein, fat, fiber, and other individual ingredients.

In reply to <a href="https://cats.com/best-dry-cat-food#comment-12373">Mike</a>.

it's clear that a lot of research and real-world testing went into these rankings. As a cat owner trying to balance quality, nutrition, and digestibility, I found the attention to protein sources, carb levels, and ingredients like salmon oil especially valuable.

One thing that caught my attention lately, which I didn’t see mentioned, is the growing use of probiotics like Bacillus coagulans probiotics in some newer dry food formulations. It’s a spore-forming probiotic, which means it can survive the high heat of kibble processing — unlike many traditional strains. I've read research and heard from a few vets that Bacillus coagulans can be particularly helpful for digestive health, improving stool quality and supporting immunity, especially in cats with sensitive stomachs or those recovering from antibiotic use.

It would be really interesting to see future comparisons include dry cat foods that use stable, science-backed probiotics like Bacillus coagulans. I think gut health is going to be a bigger focus in pet nutrition moving forward.
