Totally fair concern some pet foods use vague terms like “meat” or “poultry,” which can mean mixed sources rather than clearly identified chicken, beef, or salmon. The safest move is to choose foods that list a specific named protein as the first ingredient.

My vet doesn't support a raw food diet for my cats. She felt there was too much opportunity for parasites. I am desperately trying to do the best for this brother/sister duo. They were feral as kittens but I have had them for 5yrs now and they couldn't be more content. I'm just not sure about foods. The brother is quite slim (not skinny, he weighs 11.5lbs) and his sister is on the full figured side, she weighs just under 15lbs.
What is your take on raw food vs. other options?

I'm worried these days that cat food isn't really cat food. It's the same concept as human food. What type of meat is it? I’m concerned that it’s not chicken, beef, or salmon. This applies to any brand..

Yes, studies suggest that mercury can build up over time in cats that eat a tuna-only diet, which may pose health risks. To be safe, it’s best to rotate tuna with other proteins like chicken or turkey to give your cat variety and reduce mercury exposure.

Hi Michelle,

Yes many cats do love that type of flavor so we will look into making a dedicated article for it
